The General Assembly

The General Assembly (UNGA), established in 1945 under the Charter of the United Nations, occupies a central place in the UN, being its main deliberative, policy-making and representative organ. Consisting of all 193 Members of the United Nations, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full range of international issues covered by the UN Charter.

 

The Assembly considers current issues of critical importance to the international community in the form of high-level thematic debates organized by the President of the General Assembly in consultation with Member States. During this period, the Assembly traditionally also holds informal consultations on a wide range of substantive issues, in accordance with its resolutions
