Attracting foreign professors

From 28 August to 11 September and from 3 to 17 December 2023, Associate Professor Dababrata Narayan Chowdhury, PhD, from Ravensbourne University London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Turan University. Dr. Dababrata is an important partner of Turan University and has extensive teaching experience at universities in the UK, Turkey and Kazakhstan. His expertise covers areas such as management, business, information technology and coaching. Dr. Chowdhury is actively involved in teaching, research and management activities, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the university.

 

Dababrata Narayan Chowdhury was invited to Turan University as part of a grant provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MoE RK). This grant is provided annually to attract foreign specialists to universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

On September 8, 2023, Dr. Dababrata Chowdhury conducted a seminar for doctoral students at Turan University on the topic «How to publish in International peer-reviewed journals» During the event, participants discussed topics related to the publication of scientific articles in international journals, and studied the features of preparing and presenting articles in highly rated journals. At the end of the seminar, certificates were issued to all participants.

 

On September 1, 2023, training for teachers on the topic «Coaching and Mentoring in Higher Education» was held at Turan University.

 

On September 5, 2023, a seminar for undergraduates on the topic «Ethics of scientific research» was held at Turan University. The event provided information on responsible behavior, integrity, data management and research publishing ethics.

 

On September 6, a seminar «Digital technology and Creativity» was held for undergraduate students. Participants learned about new trends, best practices and effective strategies for using digital technologies to stimulate creativity and innovation.

 

Dr. Dababrata Chowdhury acted as co-supervisor of one master’s and one doctoral dissertation at the University of Turan.

On November 4-5, a stress management training titled «Manage Stress with Optimism» took place at Turan University. The training was conducted by Dr. Alena Garber, an associate professor, psychotherapist, and certified psychologist-consultant in systemic psychotherapy. She is also an expert in the application of communicative models, a psycho-oncologist, and the author of the program «Manage Stress with Optimism!» in Russian. Dr. Garber is certified as a trainer with the right to train coaches in the «Manage Stress with Optimism!» program in Hesse, Germany.

 

The training attracted students from the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in the field of «Psychology».

From October 5 to 7, 2023, Professor Tatiana Karabchuk from the United Arab Emirates University (Abu Dhabi, UAE) conducted a module on «Academic Writing» for PhD candidates at Turan University.

 

Tatiana Karabchuk is an expert in the field of social sciences with over 25 publications in the Scopus database and an h-index of 6. She is also involved in research projects in universities in the UAE, Japan, Germany, Hungary, as well as international organizations such as the UN, EBRD, ADB, and others.

 

The course attracted PhD candidates from programs in «Economics», «Management», «Finance», «Psychology», and «Jurisprudence» across all levels. The sessions were organized in a modular format. During the sessions, Professor Karabchuk shared her experience in conducting research, the methodology of dissertation preparation, and writing scientific articles. All participants received certificates upon completing the module.

From September 18 to 30, 2023, Professor of Economic Sciences Roland Giese from the University of Applied Sciences Zittau-Görlitz (Germany) conducted classes in the discipline «Foreign management experience» for PhD students at the University of Turan. Giese, an honorary professor and member of the board of trustees of the University of Turan, is a visiting foreign professor who regularly lectures for doctoral students for 18 years. His author’s course, «Foreign Management Experience», is presented in a modular format, where the professor shared the features of foreign strategic management in Western companies.

 

In the 2023-2024 academic year, doctoral students of the educational programs «Economics», «Management» and «Finance» actively participated in this course.

 

On September 27, 2023, a methodological seminar for teaching staff on the topic «Case Study: foreign experience» was held at Turan University, led by Professor Roland Giese.

 

Case Study is a teaching methodology that uses situational analysis and descriptions of real situations in business, economics and the social sphere. The seminar was held interactively, ensuring high emotional involvement and active participation of students. Professor Giese shared his personal experience of using the case method in German universities, noting its importance for the development of «soft skills» needed in the real work process.

Doctor of Economics, Sergey Alexandrovich Bykadorov, Professor at Siberian State University of Railways and Communications (Russia, Novosibirsk) held lectures for students and undergraduates, PC courses for teaching staff. The dates of the visit – November 9 to November 28, 2021.

Doctor of Law, Edward Juchniewicz, Professor of the University of Gdansk (Poland, Gdansk) conducted a professional development course for teaching staff and a scientific and methodological seminar for doctoral students of the specialty “Jurisprudence”. The dates of the visit – December 10 to December 19, 2021.

Professor of Anglina Ruskin University (UK), Dababrata Chowdhury conducted a training seminar for 65 teaching staff and 22 doctoral students on the topic “Education, mental health and emotional intelligence”. The dates of the visit – December 20-22, 2021.

PhD, Professor of the University of Economics – Varna (Bulgaria) Serafimova Desislava conducted a series of lectures and a professional development course for 50 teaching staff and 10 doctoral students within the framework of Erasmus+, with the issuance of a certificate. The dates of the visit – December 20-24, 2021.
