On the eve of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan, second- and third-year students of the educational programs “Tourism” and “Tourism and Hospitality Innovation Managemen” of the Higher School of Tourism and Hospitality at Turan University took part in an educational field trip to the Tanbaly State Museum-Reserve – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The excursion was organized within the framework of the courses “Excursion Activities,” “Psychology of Tourist Activity,” and “History of Tourism.” Third-year students learned about the methodology of conducting out-of-town excursions and the specific features of interacting with a tourist audience. During the trip, students of the “Tourism” program also recorded video interviews on the topic “Communication Style” with students from other groups to collect primary data for further analysis of motivational aspects of tourists.
A particularly inspiring part of the trip was the talk delivered by Alexey E. Rogozhinsky, a research associate and archaeologist of the museum-reserve, who has devoted his life to the study and preservation of the unique Tanbaly petroglyph complex. He spoke about the latest archaeological discoveries in the region and presented opportunities for students to take part in volunteer programs related to cultural heritage and museum work.
The trip became not only an important stage in the professional training of students but also a contribution to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular:
Such trips help students develop a conscious attitude toward national heritage, enhance professional competencies of tour guides, and cultivate respect for the history and culture of Kazakhstan.
