Know your roots

The awarding of the winners and participants of the Competition of school educational and research works “The history of my family in archival documents” took place in the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 3, 2024. According to the results of the competition, the first place was taken by a 1st year student of the Kazakh department of the Humanitarian and Law Faculty of the University “Turan”, Educational program “International Relations” – Satkhanbai Zhansaya.

The main goal of the competition is the intellectual and personal development of the younger generation, mastering the methods and techniques of scientific research work, attracting young people to the study and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan, documentary sources on the history of their native land, the history of their family. The topic of family archives is extremely relevant, especially in the context of modern changes.

Works for participation in the Competition were presented in the following areas: family archive – the key to the genealogy; the tragedy of human destiny; the Great Patriotic War in the history of my family; my family in the history of labor glory; my family in the history of the city; family – the keeper of traditions; my family’s contribution to the culture of Kazakhstan.

The participants gained interesting experience, got acquainted with the profession of an archivist, and most importantly, learned more about the history of their family.
