On April 28-29, 2025, events dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory were held at Turan University.
On April 28, 2025, the School of Media and Intercultural Communication held a roundtable discussion titled “Military Journalism. The Golden Pen of Kazakhstani Journalism.” The Rector of Turan University, Rakhman Alshanov, warmly welcomed the invited guests, including veterans of the Great Patriotic War, holders of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the “Құрмет” Order, chairpersons of veteran councils, public figures, scholars, researchers, as well as faculty members and students. In his speech, Alshanov highlighted numerous newly discovered facts and emphasized the relevance of the issues discussed in light of the current geopolitical and economic situation in the world.
During the event, video materials from student projects dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory and the feats of our fellow countrymen were presented. The projects included “Fiery Trials in the Name of the Motherland,” “Labor in the Rear,” “Journalism on the Frontline,” and “Newspapers and Magazines of the War Years.” The works were created by third-year students of the Journalism program under the guidance of Associate Professor A.A. Kurmanbayeva.
At the conclusion of the event, a documentary film was shown about the life of World War II veteran, renowned scientist, and prominent public figure Tuymebay Ashimbaev. During the Great Patriotic War, he was not only a brave soldier but also showcased his talent as a front-line journalist, eventually becoming the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Otanды қорғауда“ (“In Defense of the Homeland”).
The contribution of our fellow countrymen, who worked tirelessly day and night in the rear, to the victory over fascism is truly immense. In honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory, as a sign of respect for our ancestors, we remember their heroic deeds, carefully preserve them in our memories, and regard them as a model of courage. The heroic acts made for the bright future of our country will forever be immortalized in books, memoirs, and on the pages of wartime newspapers—witnesses of our history—and will be passed down to future generations.
On April 29, 2025, a patriotic evening titled “The Name of the Hero — in the Memory of the People” was held in the university’s assembly hall with the support of the School of Media and Intercultural Communication.
The main goal of the event was to honor the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the homeland and to tell the stories of the feats of Kazakhstanis in the rear during the war.
The evening began with an emotional stage performance: a mother bidding farewell to her son as he heads to the front. Archive footage and photographs of veterans were shown on an LED screen, immersing the audience in the atmosphere of the war years.
Associate Professor of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy, Sharip Abdrakhmanuly, shared memories of his father, Abdrakhman Sharipuly, who fought on the frontlines during the Great Patriotic War at a very young age. For his courage and bravery, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Great Patriotic War I Class. After the war, he entered KazGU named after S.I. Kirov and continued his career in education, becoming a well-known scholar (holding the academic degrees of Candidate of Historical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy). In 2024, he turned 100 years old.
The event also featured video materials on the significance of front-line journalism and media during the war. Students performed patriotic songs and recited poems.
This evening became a tribute to the heroism of the soldiers, a gesture of gratitude from the younger generation for the peaceful sky we now have.
