On June 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., Turan University will host a Session dedicated to the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities. The name of the holiday includes the name of the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, the author of the epic ‘Os Luisiadas’ (1572), dedicated to the journey of Vasco da Gama in the Age of Discoveries. The Session also celebrates the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Portugal in Almaty, and is sponsored by the Embassy of Portugal in Astana. The participants and guests of the Session will be offered a lecture on ‘Portugal, 2025: a social portrait’ to be delivered by Dr. Antonio Eduardo Mendonça (University of Lisbon), followed by a tasting of Portuguese sweets.
Representatives of consulates accredited in Almaty, government agencies, international and public organizations are invited to this commemoration of the Day of Portugal. The celebration at Turan University is organized by Dr. A. E. Mendonça, and hosted by the Center for Regional Studies led by Prof. Ablet K. Kamalov.
