PhD Internship at a Top-Rated University in Malaysia

From September 24 to October 23, 2025, two third-year PhD students in the Finance program, Zhexenbay Nurgul and Abdyeva Ruana, completed an international research internship at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

 

IIUM is a prestigious public university, ranked 6th in Malaysia and 607th internationally. The university’s main campus is located in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, with five other campuses throughout Malaysia: two medical campuses and a Preparatory Studies Center in Gambang, Pahang, two city campuses in Kuala Lumpur, and a language and tourism campus in Pagoh, Johor.

 

IIUM was founded on May 23, 1983, based on Islamic principles. Islamic values ​​are embedded in all disciplines. IIUM offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across 14 faculties.

 

Turan University doctoral students completed their internships at the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, and lived on campus in Mahallah Hafsah, in the Postgraduate Block.

 

During their internship, the doctoral students met with Professor Salina Bt. Kassim and other Institute staff, worked in the library, and participated in the Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF), held October 13-14 at Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur. At the Forum, the doctoral students learned about the latest academic advances in Islamic finance and established contacts with experts in the field. Upon completion of their internship, the doctoral students received certificates.
