The event, titled “Abai’s Wisdom – the Voice of the People, the Essence of a Journalist,” was organized by second-year Journalism students of the Higher School of Media and Intercultural Communication, together with Ainur Aralbekkyzy Karshygayeva.
The main goal of the event was to reveal the relevance of Abai’s legacy in the modern world and to explore the significance of national consciousness and spiritual renewal reflected in his artistic and journalistic works.
Distinguished guests were invited to the evening, including the well-known Abai scholar Nur Magazbek, journalist and poet Yessey Zhenisuly, as well as writer, documentalist, journalist, and famous TV host Kanat Tileukhan. The students engaged the guests with thought-provoking questions, leading to a lively and meaningful discussion.
The creative part of the evening was especially impressive. Under the direction of Begzat Rakhymbai, head of the student organization “TEART,” first-year students performed the choral piece “Zhelsiz túnde zharyq ai” (A Bright Moon on a Windless Night), immersing the audience in Abai’s lyrical world. A musical drama depicting the sincere and boundless love between Abai and Togzhan was staged, featuring Erkebulan Roman and Aruzhan Orazali, second-year students, in the leading roles. In addition, Azizbek Ermakbai performed several of Abai’s poems accompanied by the dombra, beautifully merging traditional Kazakh art with Abai’s poetic heritage. The evening also included video presentations about Abai’s life and works, as well as an interactive quiz that allowed students to test their knowledge. This segment helped participants explore Abai’s creativity from multiple perspectives.
At the end of the event, honorary guests and active participants were awarded Letters of Appreciation and presented with a collection of Abai’s “Words of Edification.”
