Advanced Training Course for Lawyers on “Independence of the Bar and Guarantees of Legal Practice”
The Center for Continuing Legal Education for Lawyers at Turan University (accreditation certificate from the Republican Bar Association dated 28.07.2025) is pleased to announce that, within the framework of the continuous professional development program, a professional development course for lawyers on “Independence of the Bar and Guarantees of Legal Practice” will be conducted. The course will focus on current issues related to the protection of professional rights of lawyers and the status of the bar in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Key topics of the program:
- Overview of international standards for the independence of the bar.
- National legislation: Principles of legal assistance in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Guarantees of legal practice: prohibition of equating a lawyer with the client, protection of lawyer’s property from inspection, right to confidential meetings with clients.
- Pressing issues in law enforcement practice:
- Violations of access to clients and obstacles, including in cases involving state secrets.
- Declarative nature of adversarial proceedings and disregard of defense arguments by courts.
- Vulnerability of lawyers to pressure from opposing parties and the threat of license revocation by state authorities.
- Ways to improve legislation. Proposals.
