It is fashionable to be literate

Vladimir Pakhomov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and Olga Rebkovets, Director of the Total Dictation Foundation, held an intellectual game <In the World of the Russian Language>. Participants are Almaty high schoolboys and girls, students of Colleges and Universities. Last Friday, October 21, they met each other at the White Hall and arranged a sparkling quiz of 30 difficult and interesting questions.

Eight teams, each with six scholars, relied in vain on special knowledge. This time they had to connect logic and horizons to become the leaders of the competition.

Alexandra Mohireva, a first year student of the Journalism specialty shared her impressions:

<Super! It was a pleasure to participate. We were pleased with the organization, atmosphere and seriousness of the event>.

Her classmate Diana Kurbatova confirms that she had an unforgettable experience and hopes for further participation in similar events.

<We tried to impartial and honest. And they did not use hints. For us, this is the main thing!>, she said.

Each question was a fascinating story about the Russian language. After all, Vladimir Pakhomov is not only a candidate of philological sciences. He is also a researcher at Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language and is a member of the Spelling Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences. At the same time, he finds time to anchor radio programs on languages. Olga Alexandrovna Rebkovets, in addition to being the head of the Total Dictation Foundation, is also a member of the Russian Language Council. They accompanied each quiz answer with their explanatory comments. Each participant had the opportunity to test their ingenuity and erudition. Therefore, there are no losers in this game. The top three, schoolchildren of school N85, students of Turan University and Turan College, cadets of the Baiterek team, received special prizes. The rest of the participants got nominal certificates, diplomas and new knowledge.

This event was initiated for humanitarian purposes. In addition to educating students, it responds to the challenges of the time and the initiative of  President Tokayev, to create an international organization to support the Russian language.

The Intellectual game project <In the world of the Russian language> is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and organized by Academy “SET” LLC
