The sixth SIRIUS CUP VI debate tournament has ended

On April 22-23, 2023, the annual debate tournament with the Russian league “SIRIUS CUP VI” was held at Turan University, bringing together 40 teams that competed in discussions on various topics. One of these topics was the true crime genre – a genre of documentaries or feature films, books and podcasts – which has become popular with a wide audience in recent years.

The participants of the debate argued that the true crime genre contains elements of cruelty, violence and bloody details, which can negatively affect young people and their mental state. They noted that such content can lead to disorientation in a world where cruelty and violence are constantly present.

Another topic of debate was the discussion of the abolition of the ninth part of the Constitution of Japan. The participants of the debate argued that the abolition of this part of the Constitution could lead to a violation of women’s rights and a deterioration of conditions for minorities in Japan. They also expressed the opinion that the abolition of this part of the Constitution could lead to an increase in Japan’s military activity and negatively affect international relations.

The debates at the tournament at Turan University were very interesting and informative. The participants showed a high level of preparation and professionalism in their performances. Each topic provoked many different points of view and disputes, which proves the importance and relevance of debates in our modern society.

The organizers of the tournament expressed their gratitude to all the participants, as well as to the judges who evaluated the performances of the teams. They noted that the debate tournament is a great opportunity for students and young people to develop their skills of analysis, critical thinking and persuasion. It was also noted that such events allow participants to broaden their horizons, gain new knowledge and learn from other teams.

In general, the debate tournament at Turan University is a successful event that brought together many participants and spectators. Such events are important for the development of society, and also help to support discussions on important issues.

Following the results of two days of the debate tournament:

  • The nomination “Best Speaker” was received by “Svezhensky Artem” with a prize prize of 30,000 tenge.
  • Honorary first places in the debate tournament were taken by students of the university “AlmaU” Dzhumagulova Diana and Geldt Nadezhda.
