Research project lasting over 70 years completed

The development of the 3970 m peak in the Ile-Alatau ridge in the area of Big Almaty Lake with coordinates: 43.01989º N76.95888º E began in 1952, when the future professor of the Turan University A.N. made the first ascent to the peak. Maryashev. It was he who in 2006 proposed to name the 3970th peak after “Turan” in honor of our university. The second ascent was made in 2006 (led by Professor P.E. Messerle); the third – in 2022 (headed by Professor V.N. Vukolov).

On June 29, 2023, the Onomastic Commission of the Almaty region approved the name “Turan” for the 3970m peak. And according to the rules, our organization had to install memorial signs in the Kazakh and Russian languages at the top.

The approach to the beginning of the walking part of the route from the Zhusaly-Kezen pass (3333m) and the approach to the Turan peak was carried out in bad weather: snowfall, wind, fog. Due to poor visibility, the approach was carried out by traverse through the Tourist peak (3954m) and the Turistsky pass. The already difficult technology of installing memorial signs on the rocky surface of the peak was complicated by the cold wind and snow.

On September 22, 2023, a team led by Artem Alekseevich Skopin (a graduate of Turan University) installed memorial plaques on the top of Turan.

On September 23-24, 2023, a tour of the Turan Peak of the Almaty Sports Tourism Federation took place under the leadership of M. O. Fedorenko, which included 42 participants, including the Turan University team consisting of Temirlan Berkimbaev (leader); Orlova Anastasia; Sabit Aida; Khalitova Linara.

Now the University “Turan” has a named mountain peak!
