International round table on the topic “The role of Kazakhstan and Middle powers in promoting security, stability and sustainable development”

On December 12, 2024, an international round table on the topic “The role of Kazakhstan and Middle powers in promoting security, stability and sustainable development” was held at Turan University. It was organized by the Center for regional studies at the Higher school of international relations and diplomacy. The purpose of the international round table was to discuss the concept of “middle powers” in the context of modern geopolitical changes in the world and the formation of a multipolar world order and the role of Kazakhstan in the modern system of international relations, in promoting national and collective security, stability and sustainable development of Central Asia.

The round table served as a discussion platform for debating issues in the following areas:

• the place and role of middle powers in modern geopolitics: theory and practice;
• understanding the role of middle powers in the article by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev “Kazakhstan and the role of middle powers: promoting security, stability and sustainable development”;
• the strategy of Kazakhstan as a middle power in the conditions of global turbulence;
• new contours of the multi-vector foreign policy of Kazakhstan at the present stage;
• socio-economic and cultural aspects of the implementation of the strategy of a middle power.

At the plenary session, the opening speech was given by the president of the Association of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, rector of the “Turan” University, doctor of economics, professor Rakhman Alshanovich Alshanov.

The status of an international round table was given by the speeches of scientists from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Russia.

Active participation was taken by representatives of the Representative office of the MFA of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty; a representative of the UN Department of global communications and the head of the UN Information bureau in Kazakhstan; the head of the Political cooperation department of the Representative office of the MFA of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty; Head of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Astana; Head of the Center for educational sciences and social development of the National academy of sciences of Kazakhstan under the President of Kazakhstan; Head of the Center for digital social and humanitarian sciences at the Institute of philosophy, political science and religious studies of the Kazakh national academy of sciences of Kazakhstan; leading researcher at the Institute of philosophy, political science and religious studies of the Kazakh national academy of sciences of Kazakhstan.
