The Director of the Center for Regional Studies Professor Kamalov A.K. gave a keynote speech at the international workshop in Berlin

Director of the Center for Regional Studies at Turan University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ablet K. Kamalov, was the keynote speaker at the international workshop “Transactions in Xinjiang: Cultural, Socio-economic and Historical Sources about the Western regions of China (1750-1976)”, held on July 16-18, 2025 at the State Library of Berlin, Germany.

 

His paper “The Social History of Kashgaria in Russian sources of the 19th and early 20th centuries” opened a three-day workshop that brought together leading experts on the history and culture of the peoples of Chinese Central Asia. At the meetings of the eleven sections of the workshop, the world’s leading experts on the history and culture of Inner Asia and China made presentations on topical issues of source studies.

 

They considered a wide range of issues of cultural and socio-economic interaction over a long period, starting with the situation preceding the conquest of Dzungaria and Kashgaria by the Manchu Qing Dynasty, and ending with the “cultural revolution” in the People’s Republic of China (1966-1976). Leading experts on sources and history, from Germany, the USA, Japan, Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Hungary, Sweden and Australia attended delivered their papers at the international event.

 

The workshop was organized by the Asian Department of the State Library in Berlin in cooperation with the Ruhr University Bochum, the German Research Society. The invitation of Professor Ablet K. Kamalov to make a keynote speech at such a high-level conference is a recognition of his scientific achievements by the international academic community.
