Director of the Regional Studies Center of Turan University, Professor Ablet K. Kamalov, has headed the Book Award Committee of the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS)

On November 19, 2025, the George Washington University in the capital of the United States of America hosted the Annual Conference of the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS). At the meeting of the members of this professional organization, which brings together researchers and experts from the vast region of Central Eurasia, the winners of the annual competition for the best books on Central Eurasia published in 2024 were announced. This year, the CESS Book Award Committee was chaired by Ablet K. Kamalov, Past President of the Central Eurasian Studies Society and Professor at Turan University.

 

The CESS Book Award Committee had as its members Prof. Scott Levi (Ohio University, USA), Prof. Adeeb Khalid (Carleton College, USA), and Prof. George Rueckert of KIMEP (Kazakhstan). The prizes in History and Humanities for books published in 2024 were given to Professor of Indiana University Marianne Camp for the book “The Collectivization Generation: Oral Histories of the Social Revolution in Uzbekistan” (Cornell University Press) and to Vladimir Hamed-Troyansky for his book “Empire of Refugees: North Caucasian Muslims and the Late Ottoman State” (Stanford University Press).

 

In 2024, Turan University hosted the Annual Conference of the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS), which brought together more than 450 scholars from around the world.
