Poetic evening as music of the soul

Kazakhstan and Russia hosted an international student literary and poetry evening at Turan University. The organizers were the Department of Journalism and Translation Studies (Turan University, Almaty, Kazakhstan) and linguists from the Department of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication (Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Moscow, Russia).

For students, this became an excellent opportunity to find common ground, express themselves, and improve their native and foreign languages. During these days, they are particularly drawn to literature and art because there they can find both solace and answers to many questions.

“…Poetry is not only in verses: it is spread everywhere, it surrounds us. Look at these trees, at this sky – beauty and life breathe from everywhere, and where there is beauty and life, there is poetry”.

Students reinterpreted the above quote by writer Ivan Turgenev in their own way and added poetry to their lives.

From the Kazakh side, the best were Aisha Beketova, Nadezhda Reznik, Angelina Kvashnina, Dildora Mamyrzhanova and Polina Mikhaylova.

On the Russian side, the best were Daniil Gripasov, Varvara Gorbulya, Polina Dzevenis, Alexandra Movchanyuk, Tatyana Gorbenko and Alexander Volkov.

The young people were inspired by the verses of Alexander Pushkin, Abai Kunanbayev, Sergei Yesenin, Alexander Blok, Rudyard Kipling, and other remarkable poets.

Students of all forms of education, all specialties, and training directions could participate in the competition. They presented poetry in three languages: Kazakh, Russian, and English.

Foreign participants could take part remotely by recording themselves on camera and sending the video recording by email.
