PR in Action: Turan University Hosted the Second Stage of the National PR Olympiad

On April 25, 2026, Turan University opened its doors to participants of the second stage of the National Subject Olympiad in the educational program “Public Relations.” On that day, the university halls were filled with a completely different energy.

Teams from the country’s leading universities took part in the competition: Buketov Karaganda Research University, Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kenzhegali Sagadiyev University of International Business, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Almaty Management University (AlmaU).

Students worked in conditions максимально close to a real professional environment. No abstract theories — only practical cases, tight deadlines, and the need to think quickly, accurately, and convincingly. This is exactly how real PR works.

The gold medal went to the team from Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov – participants from Taldykorgan demonstrated outstanding performance in the final rounds. Silver was shared by L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and AlmaU. Bronze medals were awarded to teams from Buketov Karaganda University, UIB, and Al-Farabi KazNU.

While students were competing, their academic supervisors also had an opportunity for professional development. Alongside the main program, Turan University organized two master classes for the faculty members accompanying the teams. This was perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of the event, as the development of PR education in the country begins not only with students.

The first master class was conducted by Sanatbek Seidekhanov, PhD, Associate Professor at the Higher School of Media and Intercultural Communication of Turan University – a specialist who combines academic depth with a practical understanding of the profession. The second master class was delivered by Botagoz Aldongarova, senior lecturer, journalist, and PR specialist with extensive industry experience.
